well, we got lost on
the way there, and missed the first band, but it was no
big deal, we only wanted to see SDRE anyways. right when they came out
everyone was clapping. everyone was going crazy. they opened with pherton
skeurto...it was so awesome. they changed it around and made it really
rockin. it was great. they played all the same songs they played at the other
shows on this tour. one guy said the same thing after every song...which was
"...that was a good one!" man it was so funny. and after they played
there
first song, he screamed "Holy F***ing Crap, that was awesome!" the
whole
place was laughing so hard. another guy screamed "play bucket of chicken"...
and dan looked at him and said..."give it up man, ya know we are never
gonna
play that song..." it was funny. i met jeremy after the show and asked
him
about his contract with sub-pop. he told me that he still has to release a
solo album on sub-pop. i remember hearing rumors about him maybe working with
tooth and nail records...the only thing he said about that was..." i'd
be
foolish to work with tooth and nail...but i'd also be foolish to work with
sub-pop" haha it was funny. and i said " so that picture of you
wearing all
of that tooth and nail clothing is fake?" and he said " yep, thats
a fake".
everyone was eating up everything he had to say. they also stated at the show
that "j'nuh" was indeed named after the sound the guitar makes on
the outro.
to top this show off, was what i saw when i was leaving. when i saw them on
there last tour, which was promoting "the rising tide", they made
all of the
clubs put up signs that said "NO SMOKING". i understood why they
wouldnt want
smoking at there shows. but right when i was leaving, i saw jeremy smoking
a
fat jack...it was so funny. i was like...what the heck...heh, but oh well...

What's goin down? The
finest show of my life, Sunny Day Real Estate!
Venue: Recher Thearter, Towson Maryland (near Baltimore)
Tiny place, but nice, torches, miniature stage, i was like 30 feet
from the band, directly in front of dan.
This is the set for 10/15/00:
Pheurton Skeurto/ One/ Killed by an Angel/ Song
about an Angel/
8/ The Ocean/ Pillars/ 100 million/ every shining
time you arrive/
Faces in Disguise/ 48/ J'nuh/ In Circles
I couldn't have asked for a better set( besides WAFFLE!), it
combined my favorite songs from the rising tide, with my favorite songs
of all time, song about an angel and 48, with other beautiful stuff in
between. Pherton! WooHoo! They added an awesome amplified verse after
the standard song! What a great opener! Song about an angel: i almost
took a shit when they played it! The show still would of been the best
ever if this was the only song they played. (Oh yeah, the tour bassist
and third guitaris/ keys/ vocalist came from Euphone, who opened up.
They are awesome! They combine some crucial rockabilly guitar playing,
with these jazz pieces with great xylophone playing. All instrumental.
Great band!)
Anyway, i called out for WAFFLE in between songs and started off a
volley of requests for this greatest of songs. Alas, they did not play
it, but they sure as hell made up for it! The last three songs were so
intense, excellent, wonderful, probably they greatest 15 minutes of
music ever played! The audience was mad enthusiastic, and the dude in
front of me almost scared my friend elizabeth half to death. This guy
had been screaming, running around for most of the set, buy during In
Circles he really erupted!
Best show i have ever seen and probably ever will!

It was a cool breezy
october evening...the perfect weather for a night of
emotional rock. After waiting outside for a good 2 hours, we were let into
the, what looked to be small but really wasn't, Recher Theatre in Towson
(outside Baltimore). Me being from the Philly area was not used to a theatre
of this kind of cleanliness and pleasant atmosphere. AND THEY SERVED GRILLED
CHEESE! anyways, after about an hour of waiting, Euphone took the stage.
Personally i thought their sound was something to definatly be apprieciated.
The JadeTree quartet blessed our ears to a series of instrumental
masterpieces. No singing, but definatly a band worth picking up. Well after
their 45 minute set, some time of waiting and a bottle of water later, Sunny
Day took the stage. As I was sitting RIGHT in the front, my head almost
collided with Dan's guitar head a couple of times...ouch. The set was
blessed from the beginning with an updated version of Pheurton Skuerto. A
little distortion and an added verse, and the song was complete. They then
played some stuff off of the new cd, and did the old (well not really) angel
medley, playing Killed By An Angel followed by Song About An Angel. They
then rehashed an old favorite from the last tour with 8 which was followed
by
a more than beautiful rendition of The Ocean, and an intensified offering
of
Pillars. then came the Coup-De_Gracy...ahh 100 Million. I don't about most
of you, but I feel that the breakdown to that song is one of the most
beautiful things ever written in music...sheer brilliance. This was then
followed by Every Shining Time You Arive and Faces in Disguise. Out of
nowhere the opening chords to a certain song with a certain two digits began
being played...yessum, 48 it is. I had forgotten how great that song was
until they played it (when i got home i listened to it on my stereo on repeat
for 2 hours). They then pulled out two tour favorites in J'Nuh, and In
Circles. (sigh) encore. Well the band returned with two songs that we're a
total shock to everyone. It started off with The Prophet followed by the
ultimate Sunny Day staple...Seven. They then closed the show with the live
extended version of The Rising Tide. I want to get a cd of that somewhere.
The show was then over and the people went home. Of course their were things
that happened at the show that were funny and quirky. The band seemed to be
very against playing Guitar And Video Games (although everyone, including
myself was requesting it...and it was my birthday godamnit). They also
played the intro of Bucket Of Chicken upon request. :) personally i have
never seen the band that into it, and it was easily the greatest concert i
have ever been to.
