- Toad's Place
By Claire(bear) Avitabile
hey there beautiful people...
i have been in love
with sunny day real estate since the first time i heard
the first measure of some song of theirs a few years back. the second i knew
they were going to be playing boston this past summer, i was SO there, first
in line at the door, ready to melt and cry...... again, the second i knew
they were playing toad's the other night i did pretty much the same. the
venu kinda sucked a little [with this fish net crap splitting the room in
half to separate the "cool kids" (drinkers) from the uncool (j/k)]
and
ticketmaster ripped me off... but of course this didn't matter because i
would see SDRE play for $400/ticket in a pile of shit somewhere... truth.
anyways, enough blathering.
the show was amazing. eupohone i could have
done without, honestly... the drummer is incredibly talented, but most of
the
songs sounded the same, and tho mallets are quite a cool toy, they grew old
on me pretty fast... and then after the change, SDRE comes out and before
they even play a note the crowd and i were in awe... they are so beautiful-
of course its like a known fact that jeremy is beautiful- i mean, god damn!
that man could sing about dog shit and i'd still be in love with him and his
voice and the band.... but they ALL are beautiful. they just play with such
passion- i've never seen anything like it.
i did NOT, however,
cry at this show. i dont understand it... i cried during
three songs at the july show in boston, but i didn't at this one. i didn't
love it any less (except i was a little sad that they didn't play guitar and
video games, which is the most beautiful song i've ever heard, and my
favorite of theirs)... the show left me mute. it amazes me how a simple
amazing little band can effect a person so much :-) ...but no complaints
here.
the setlist was, i
think, an incredible melding of all the albums... they
played [not in exact order] 7, circles, 48, pillars, ESTYA, 100 million, the
rising tide, killed by an angel, faces in disguise, one, the ocean, and then
a couple that i dont know the names of because when i bought the CD i just
put it into my CD case without memorizing any of the names of the songs....
but the words still flowed off my tongue perfectly. it was amazing. i also
couldn't believe how LONG they played for! the set must have been an hour
and 20 atleast... and then they came back to play a 3 song encore!
"incredible" and "breath-taking" don't even come close
to describing it....
:::sigh:::
today i don't even
remember that i went to class... i feel like i'm still in
the moment, dancing and laughing and loving and singing amongst a crowd of
beautiful people before this wonderful band- the love of my life- and all
i
can do is smile.
